Woodcrest Wolverines

Principal's Message

Dear Woodcrest Families,

This week we are excited to celebrate Read Across America Week as we promote literacy and a love of reading across our campus! While this celebration often highlights younger readers, literacy remains just as important in junior high as students build critical thinking, vocabulary, and academic skills that prepare them for high school and beyond.

To celebrate:

  • Wednesday is Harry Potter Day — students may wear any Harry Potter gear to show their love of books and storytelling.

  • Friday is Pajama Day — students are invited to bring their favorite storybook to share and celebrate reading in a cozy way.

A big thank-you to all the families who supported our Crumbl Cookies fundraiser. We appreciate your continued partnership and generosity!

Basketball games begin this week! Students must have a 2.0 GPA in order to attend games and must bring their student ID for entry. Let’s support our teams while maintaining strong academic standing.

Save the Dates:

  • March 12: 7th Grade Parent Orientation Night (for incoming 7th graders/current 6th grade families)

  • March 13: Liberty and Dickey Elementary students will be visiting Woodcrest

  • March 21st: First Annual Car Show (Need cars, trucks, motorcycles see below for interest form)

We look forward to a week full of reading, school spirit, and Wolverine pride!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Have a wonderful week, Wolverines!

Please ensure your student:

  • Arrives to school and each class on time.
  • Comes prepared and ready to learn each day.
  • Brings their school ID, charged laptop and charger, and all necessary materials.

Important Reminders:

  • Student ID badges must be worn daily. If a student does not have their ID they can go to the office to have one printed for them for the day. On the 3rd instance they will receive a lunch detention for not being responsible. It is the student's responsibility to wear it daily. ID Badges are used during lunch time to speed up the process for students getting their lunch in the lines. If students do not have their ID's on them they will be asked to go to the back of the line as to not hold up the lunch lines.

  • Hats and Hoods are not permitted to be worn on campus

  • No Gum on campus

  • Phones, ear buds, headphones, and all electronic devices must be turned off and stored in backpacks before entering campus

  • There is no student drop-off in front of the school

    • Students may enter from the north side by the park or the south side near the Library (see map below)

  • Students should bring their agendas, charged laptops, and chargers every day

  • Please review the student handbook located in the agenda before the first day of school

  • Every Friday is School Spirit Day! Wear purple, black, grey, or a Woodcrest shirt

  • Dismissal is at 3:15 PM

Thank you,

Mrs. Taylor

Counselor Corner

💬 Counselor’s Corner: March 2nd - March 6th

Dear Families,

We are well into Trimester 3, and this week we want to highlight the importance of literacy as a key foundation for academic success. Reading is essential not only for English language arts, but also for learning across all subjects.

📚 Academics:
Encourage students to read regularly at home—in books, articles, or online academic resources like Paper, our free tutoring tool. Research shows that reading proficiency strongly influences long-term educational success and the ability to learn in all classes. Students who read at or above grade level are more likely to graduate high school and have greater future opportunities.

🌟 PBIS: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe
Wolverines continue to earn PBIS points by showing positive behavior on campus. Points can be redeemed for rewards in the Wellness Room/Zen Den before school. Keep making positive choices that support your success!

💜 Social-Emotional Support:
Reading can also support emotional well-being by building empathy, encouraging reflection, and reducing stress. Encourage your student to take short reading breaks, enjoy stories that interest them, and talk about what they’re reading.

🏫 Community & School Connection – Literacy Data:
In San Bernardino County, only about 36% of third graders met or exceeded English language arts/literacy standards in the most recent assessment year, which is lower than the California average of around 43%.

In 2021, about 50% of California 7th and 8th graders met or exceeded the English Language Arts (ELA)/literacy standard on state assessments, meaning half of students were reading at or above grade level.

Research shows that children who are not proficient readers by the end of elementary school are significantly more likely to face academic challenges later on.

Why Reading Matters:
• Reading is the foundation for learning in every subject.
• Students who read regularly build stronger vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills that help in tests and everyday learning.
• Families can support literacy by reading with students, encouraging a variety of reading materials, and celebrating reading progress at home.

Let’s support our Wolverines by making reading a regular part of daily routines—at home and at school!

With care,
Miss Torres & Ms. Morales Garcia

Drop Off and Pick Up Options

Dear Woodcrest Families,

To help keep our students safe, please follow our designated drop-off and pick-up procedures:

South Side (Bon View Entrance)

  • Enter from Bon View (next to Liberty Elementary).

  • Pull forward toward Campus before stopping.

North Side (Driveway Past the Gym)

  • Enter the driveway past the main office and the gym.

  • Continue down the second driveway and follow the loop to exit.

Front of the School (Campus Street)

  • You may use the pull-in section along Campus Street for drop-off or pick-up.

  • This is not part of the driveway.

🚫 Not Allowed

  • No drop-off or pick-up in the driveway directly in front of the office.

  • No parking in school parking spaces for drop-off or pick-up.

  • No stopping or parking in the private community across from the school.

    • This is private property, and the community has informed us that vehicles will be towed or ticketed.

Why This Matters
Students use the crosswalks in our parking lots, and unauthorized driving through these areas creates safety hazards.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping all Wolverines Respectful, Responsible, and Safe!

Phones need to be turned off and in backpacks prior to entering the gates, along with earbuds, headphones, any electronics.

PBIS Spirit Points and Student Involvement

Grade levels earn spirit points throughout the school year and the grade with the most points at the end of the year earns an extra end of the year activity.
