College and Career

CaliforniaColleges.edu lessons walk students step-by-step through creating an informed college, career, and financial aid plan. Students in 6th through 12th grades can complete grade-appropriate activities to help them smoothly navigate the transition from high school to college.

Middle School Focus

  • Explore careers and interests.
  • Learn how financial aid makes college cost less.
  • Learn about California’s four systems of higher education.
  • Understand the importance of “a-g” coursework.
  • Develop college and financial aid knowledge and vocabulary.

Before you can access all the great features available via CCGI (California Colleges Guidance Initiative), you first need to register your account.

Steps for registering your account:

  • Go to californiacolleges edu
  • Click on the "Register Your Account" icon in the upper right-hand corner of the homepage.
  • Select" I am a Student" from the "Tell us who you are" drop-down menu. Enter the school district (Chino Valley Unified) and Woodcrest Junior High in the name of your school section, then select "next."
  • Enter your ID number and your birthday. Click Next when done.
  • Enter your school email address (student ID@stu.chino.k12.ca.us) and make your password Woodcrest (and the year you will promote, for example, Woodcrest25). Then select "register."
  • If you are asked to save your password, please do so.
  • How to log in after you have registered your account:
  • Go to californiacolleges.edu
  • Sign in using your district email and password. Click "sign-in" when done.

"A-G" minimum subject requirements for College

Here is a handout for your students to follow if they want to attend a 4-year university/college right after High School. This form is to be discussed with your student's HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR. All our classes here at Woodcrest are preparing the students for high school and beyond.

Scholarships

  • Look for scholarships in your community. Here are some great places to start.
  • Your high school counselor. 
  • Your college financial aid office. 
  • Your local library. 
  • Non-profit organizations or businesses. 
  • Religious or community groups. 
  • Professional associations related to your career path.

Be careful when searching for scholarships! 

  • Don’t trust sites that guarantee scholarships. 
  • Never pay to apply. 
  • Don’t give sensitive information, like your Social Security number (SSN). 
  • If you’re unsure about a scholarship, check with a counselor before applying.  

PSAT 8/9

The PSAT 8/9 is the first exam in the College Board's "SAT Suite of Assessments" offered to eighth and ninth graders. The purpose of the PSAT 8/9 is to establish a starting point in terms of college and career readiness as students transition to high school. Magnolia offers the PSAT 8/9 to all of our 8th grade students in the winter (fee of charge). Click here to take an at-home practice test. 
SAT - Scholastic Aptitude Test 

The SAT is a college entrance exam that high school students must take to get accepted into college. The test has three parts: reading, writing, and mathematics. In addition, there are also SAT subjects tests that test your knowledge in specific subjects, i.e., language arts, math, science, history, and foreign languages.
 
ACT - American College Testing

The ACT is a college entrance exam that high school students take to get accepted into college. The test has four sections; English, mathematics, reading, and science. There is also an ACT writing test. Most students in California take the SAT, not the ACT.
